Mouthwash Facts In Carlton

Mouthwash Facts In Carlton

Hi, I am Doctor Bryant Zollinger.  Thanks for visiting my Carlton Dental blog. In today’s post I would like to discuss mouthwash. Many Oregon residents use mouthwash to freshen their breath and help retard tooth decay. Mouthwash should never be used exclusively though, good oral hygiene starts with thorough tooth brushing and flossing. Mouthwash is an optional tool in your dental hygiene tool box.

It is important for Oregon residents to know what kind of mouthwash they are using. Some mouthwashes merely mask bad breath while others help reduce the bacteria that causes plaque and bad breath.

If you are one of the Carlton residents that suffers from bad breath it is important to choose a mouthwash that contains ingredients that help prevent tooth decay such as fluoride. But Oregon men and women also need to use caution when using mouthwashes because many of the ingredients are dangerous when the recommended amount of mouthwash is exceeded.

Some of the poisonous components are chlorhexidine gluconate, ethanol, hydrogen peroxide, and methyl salicylate. If you experience throat pain, vomiting, headache, or abdominal pain after using mouthwash, seek medical help immediately. The National Poison Control Center (1-800-222-1222) can answer questions about mouthwash ingredients.

At Carlton Dental we want everyone to have great smelling breath, but to use caution when treating their bad breath. Make sure to read your mouthwash label and follow all instructions given.

In addition to preventative dental care, Carlton Dental offers a wide range of cosmetic dentistry procedures. If you are a resident anxious to have a whiter, brighter smile talk to Carlton Dental about teeth whitening. Carlton Dental also provide cosmetic dentistry and porcelain veneers.

Attack Of The Gummi Bear

Carltonaffordable family dentist

Here at the Carlton dental blog, we never like to be the bearers of bad news, but we are committed to our patients’ oral health. So, today we offer a key warning about a lesser-known danger of sticky candy.

Most people probably know that sugar is not your teeth’s friend. Eating candy creates the perfect environment for detrimental cavity-causing bacteria to thrive in your mouth.

Did you know that the physical toll of chewing on sticky candy can lead to (or aggravate) a condition in the temporomandibular joint called Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD)? The jaw is a delicate joint and sticky candy increases stress and the possibility of taking the jaw out of alignment.

Worried about giving up the sweet stuff? Remember that when you stop eating highly-sweet things, your taste buds adjust and you will enjoy foods with more subtle flavors, such as fruits. So don’t give up! Your taste buds will change and your teeth and jaw will thank you!

Hi. I’m Doctor Bryant Zollinger of Carlton Dental in Carlton. If you hear a popping or clicking noise in your jaw, have pain in your jaw or around your ears, or feel like your bite is out of alignment, call 503-852-7147 to see your general dentist.

TMJ issues can generally be treated with non-invasive methods including including relaxation techniques, diet and lifestyle modifications, or orthodontic treatment. Physical therapy is often effective for treating more severe cases of TMD. If required, I can refer you to a physical therapist who specializes in TMD treatment. During your examination, we can also discuss pain management.

In addition to TMD and bite misalignment diagnosis and treatment, Carlton Dental offers the following services:

sedation dentistry
teeth whitening
orthodontics
dental implants

Along with healthy teeth, we also want you to have a phenomenal smile that you can be proud of. If you have any questions about teeth whitening in Carlton, smile redesigns, or other cosmetic dentistry procedures, give us a call today at 503-852-7147.

We hope to hear from you soon!

3 Ways To Keep Your Mouth Happy!

Carlton Teeth Bleaching

Hi. I’m Dr. Bryant Zollinger, an experienced dentist in Carlton. It is my goal to help my patients have optimum oral health, and today I would like to talk about something else associated with our mouths that doesn’t get as much attention as cavities or cosmetic dentistry: it’s our sense of taste.

A happy mouth is not only a healthy mouth, but also a mouth that can enjoy the flavors of all types of foods. And it turns out that many of the habits that will keep your taste buds sensitive are those that will also be good for your teeth and gums. So here are a few tips to help you better enjoy the flavor of your food.

1) Treat dry mouth. Dry mouth can create a loss of taste sensitivity, so it should be treated quickly by your dentist. Plus, optimal levels of saliva are important to avoid cavities and keep gums healthy.

2) Avoid processed foods with fake flavors and too much sugar and salt. They will quickly desensitize you to more subtle, healthy flavors.

3) Don’t smoke! Cigarettes are responsible for so many horrible health issues, but many people don’t realize that their sense of taste is dulled while they smoke and the olfactory nerves can even be damaged permanently.

Thank you so much for visiting the Carlton dentist blog.

Let’s do this together. If you have other issues that need to be reviewed first, rest assured that Dr.  Zollinger has been offering cosmetic dentistryporcelain veneers, and dental implants since 1979. You can be confident that Dr. Zollinger has the expertise and high standards you deserve.

4 Reasons To Get Your Child To Your The Dentist

McMinnville family dentist

Did you know that The American Dental Association recommends that a child’s first visit to a dentist should occur around twelve months of age?

For many parents, this may come as a surprise. Today in the Carlton Dental blog, we are going to review 4 reasons why your toddler’s teeth are worth a dental visit.

1. Twelve months of age happens to be about the time when a child’s first teeth tend to erupt. Once those teeth are out, it’s time to get them looked at by a professional.

2. One of the most important things your dentist will do at this visit will be to clean those young teeth and apply fluoride.

3. Visiting the dentist at a young age is a great way to help your child get used to the dentist’s office. This will help them to be more comfortable with the dentist as they grow older.

4. Visiting the dentist also helps parents enlist the help of other adults is establishing good dental habits in their children. Starting early dental visits will mean that later in life your child is less likely to require braces or other cosmetic dentistry procedures such as dental implants.

If your child is apprehensive about visiting the dentist, you might want to bring them for a short tour of our office beforehand. They can meet our friendly staff and learn what to expect when they come in for their exam.

I’m Dr. Bryant Zollinger. I want my patients to have the best oral health possible. I also want them to look their best, so if you have any questions about a smile makeover or other cosmetic dentistry procedures, contact my friendly dental team at 503-852-7147.

Treat Your Smile To A Healthy Diet

experienced family dentist Carlton

Proper nutrition can benefit you in a number of ways; increased energy, improved immunity, glowing skin, mental clarity, and a lower risk of heart disease and stroke. How often, however, do you think about how your diet impacts your oral health?

Your diet can impact your risk of cavities, enamel health, and gum condition. Healthy foods provide an environment that can inhibit inflammation and infection. Vegetables, fruits, legumes, and nuts are the optimal choices for oral health. Calcium-fortified beverages, milk and other dairy products provide vitamins, minerals, and calcium that assists in keeping teeth, bones, and gums healthy. Eating crispy fruits and vegetables, such as apples and celery, will help clean your teeth and gums.

A healthy diet contains all the important vitamins and minerals, and the most important mineral for teeth is fluoride – especially for children. Between the ages of 6 months and 16 years old, both the primary and the permanent teeth come in, therefore adequate fluoride is critical.

Don’t forget, however, that too much fluoride is harmful. Dr. Bryant Zollinger can advise you on the specific dosage of fluoride for your child, taking into account whether your municipal water is fluoridated.

Even though adults’ teeth have already formed, fluoride aids in remineralizing weakened enamel to a degree. This effective mineral is applied to teeth during comprehensive dental cleanings at Carlton Dental and daily with fluoride toothpaste.

Bacteria that causes enamel-destroying plaque love a steady diet of sugar – from soda, candy, and even fruit juices. When enamel wears away, the teeth become vulnerable to decay, cracks, and discoloration.

Sugary foods that are especially detrimental are those that get trapped in the spaces between teeth and the tiny pits and cracks in the molars. Candies that are chewy or hard can lodge in these spaces and allow for the harmful sugar to have direct contact with enamel until brushing occurs. Sticky candy can also damage braces and retainers. More than one retainer has fallen prey to sticky caramel or hard taffy.

Be sure to brush after each meal and before bed. Furthermore, remember to floss or use a water irrigating method to dislodge food particles trapped in spaces. By eating well, brushing properly, flossing regularly, and avoiding foods that stick to your teeth, you can have a beautiful smile for life. (And, hopefully, the physical fitness to complement that attractive smile and the energy to enjoy both.)

I’m Dr. Bryant Zollinger, and I have a full-service dental practice in Carlton. Because there are so many quick and effective cosmetic dentistry procedures available, such as invisible braces, veneers, teeth whitening, and dental implants, anyone in Carlton can have a perfect smile.

Be Wise About Your Wisdom Teeth, Carlton

Be Wise About Your Wisdom Teeth, Carlton

Hi, I’m Dr. Bryant Zollinger, and today in the Carlton dental blog we will be discussing the often misunderstood subject of wisdom teeth.

Wisdom teeth are sometimes called the third molars because they are even farther back in the mouth than the two sets of regular molars we all have. These four teeth usually erupt when a person is eighteen or nineteen.

Many dentists in the Yamhill, McMinnville, and Gaston area recommend that wisdom teeth be removed to prevent misplacement in the mouth.

If a wisdom tooth doesn’t fully erupt, it may cause an opening in the gums that can attract bacteria and become infected. Some wisdom teeth are so misplaced that they can actually cause problems with the jaw bone. Both of these conditions can cause severe pain.

If you are wondering if your wisdom teeth need to be removed, call us today at 503-852-7147 to schedule an appointment. We can assess the condition and placement of your wisdom teeth and discuss a treatment plan.

We can also answer any questions you have about smile makeovers. Because there are so many quick and effective cosmetic dentistry procedures available, such as invisible braces, veneers, teeth whitening, and dental implants, anyone in Carlton can have a perfect smile.

Thanks for visiting the Carlton dental blog, and keep Carlton Dental in mind for your dental needs. We hope to see you soon!
